The dingo is one of Australia's native feral dogs. It is the largest terrestrial predator in Australia, and plays an important role as an apex predator. Unlike other dogs, the dingo does not bark, instead it howls to communicate. It is Australia's largest surviving meat eating mammal, and lives in all states and territories except Tasmania. The Perth mint produced this $1 coin and the accompanying stamps to show off this unique animal.
