I is for the hardy Ironbark – a type of eucalyptus known for its hard wood. Ironbark maintains its density and doesn’t rot easily, making it ideal for fence posts, piers and sleepers, and is one of the few timbers that won’t float. Growing up to 35 metres tall, Ironbark is generally dark grey in colour, producing pink, red, creamy yellow or white flowers between April and December and its leaves are used in eucalyptus oil production.
