Struck to Brilliant Uncirculated standard, this UK 50p coin features colour printing that brings the design of the steppe mammoth to life. One of the largest mammals to roam the Earth during the Ice Age, this mighty herbivore was the predecessor to the woolly mammoth. The steppe mammoth had a massive standing average shoulder height of 4 metres and weighed 10 tonnes. Designed by palaeo-artist Robert Nicholls, the coin features a scientifically and anatomically accurate depiction of the steppe mammoth. Both the coin design and packaging have been created in collaboration with the Natural History Museum and expert guidance from palaeobiologist Professor Adrian Lister.
