The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games took place from 28 August to 8 September, just after the completion of the Paris Olympic Games. This was the 17th Summer Paralympics and the first hosted by Paris. Around 4,400 athletes participated in a program that included 22 sports and 23 disciplines, with 549 events taking place across 269 sessions. Australia has participated in every Paralympics except for the 1976 Winter Paralympics and sent a team of around 170 athletes to Paris. Historically, most of our gold medals have been awarded in Athletics, Swimming and Cycling. At the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, Australia won 21 gold medals and 80 overall. The opening ceremony took place at the Place de la Concorde and the event venues included the Grand Palais, Les Invalides and Champ de Mars and, outside Paris, the gardens of the Château de Versailles and the National Shooting Centre at Châteauroux.
